My newest favorite site or source of entertainent/education/information. Ted talks is a non-profit organization which endeavors to “bring together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes or less).” I have found the talks to give me: Unexpected connections. Extraordinary insights. Powerful inspiration.
The speakers come from every walk of life: the famous movie director J.J. Abrams speaking about the subtle moments of movie making, Jil Bolte Taylor – A Harvard Brain Researcher who had the ultimate research opportunity suffering a stroke herself, to the poignant John Hodgeman who brings together the existence of Aliens to falling in Love.
The personalities range from the most charismatic to the biggest geek of the Geeks. But it seems one constant is present from all the talks. They never fail to take a turn and relate the subject on a human level. Making the most cerebral, or sanitary subject pertinent.
The TED talks are available in numerous formats, on the Science Channel, on Netflix, there is a Smartphone App that can stream the video or many of the talks have an audio track only for slow connections. I listen or watch these talks when I am looking for inspiration or an uplift.
I have my favorites which I watch over and over, and those that I will share shamelessly with any aquaintance as well as those that are very pointed that I will share with that special person. There is surely a multitude of talks witch will speak to everyone.
