VNSO Park gets Adult Fitness Equipment

Van Nuys Sherman Oaks War Memorial Park has received a huge addition to its fitness offerings.

Over the past 6 months Adult Fitness Equiptment has been installed at the North East Section of the park, across the ball field from the Gym and Pool Complex.  The best parking is off Hazeltine Avenue.  This equiptment is part of a movement to improve the physical fitness of adults and make 40+ parks throughout the city more usable for Adults.  Some of the equipment is manufactured by GameTime Company.

The city has found this fitness equiptment to be very economical costing approximately $75,000 for the 14 pieces of equiptment currently in place.  Funding came from a private donation as well as from the newly reassigned councilman Tom Labonge as well as from the L.A. Parks Foundation.  Councilman Labonge has always been a strong proponent of the city parks.  Personally I use the equiptment several days a week and always find it to be highly utilized.

The Parks Department hopes to increase the offerings for adults at the Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park most efficiently utilizing the 70 Acres of land set out in the Heart of Sherman Oaks. This gives people many people the opportunity to workout in the outdoors, and free of charge.

The park already features a walking path with either a short track or an extended track around the exterior of the park as well as a large pool, gym and the newly constructed senior complex at the NorthWest end of the park of Van Nuys. I believe this is one of the most completely used public assets in the city.  There are always people playing sports, walking exercising, swimming and many other activities available here in Sherman oaks. In the past year the park has seen the installation of a universally accessible playground by Shane’s Inspiration which is designed to give children of all physical abilities the chance to play together.

When looking for a great park to visit, keep in mind the Van Nuys Sherman Oaks Park VNSO and stop by in Sherman Oaks.

LA City intends to DOUBLE the Real Estate Transfer taxes

For neighborhoods under the control of the City of LA such as Sherman Oaks, Studio City and Encino, selling a home is about to get much more expensive.  A proposal currently under review by the council will drastically raise the taxes charged to homeowners when they sell their home.

When a home sells the current “city transfer tax” is $4.40 per $1,000 of sale price, or about $2,200 on a $500,000 home sale.  This is in addition to the $1.10 per $1,000 the county charges.  Under the new proposal that amount will rise to $9.00 per $1,000.  or $4,500 on a half million dollar house.

The housing market is just in the beggining stages of a recovery Continue reading

Officer, There’s A Head in the Head

I sold a house in the Sherman Oaks Area the week before the New Year holiday to a buyer who was going to demolish the house. It was just down the street from my own home.  The house had been previously owned by a guy who was obsessed with “slasher” and “texas chainsaw” type movies.  So much so that he had made a few flicks himself at the house Continue reading

Obama to Visit Clooney Party at Studio City Home

Word has it that President is slated to visit the Studio City home of George Clooney on May 10, 2012 to attend a party.  This could have far reaching affects on Studio City and the surrounding areas of Hollywood, Sherman Oaks, Toluca Lake and even Beverly Hills.  The largest impact possible is the complete closure of the twisty turny hilly Laurel Canyon Boulevard, the major artery thru the canyon between Hollywood Hills and Studio City.  Of course this will put extreme pressure on Coldwater Canyon and Beverly Glen which pass between Beverly Hills and Sherman Oaks.  Other impacts will be a complete no fly zone over the area as well as shutting down the Fryman Canyon walking path as well as the parking lot at the bottom of that park which may be used for one of the security staging areas.  It is sure that secret service will be crawling all over the very tony Fryman Canyon Area as well as all the surronding areas.  Judging from past visits from the President this could have impacts on nearby 101 freeway as well as the storied Mulholland Drive which has scenic overviews of both the San Fernando Valley as well as the “West Side”.
